Wye Oak, The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs
The Baltimore indie rock duo’s fifth album is a bright, ambitious, densely layered exploration that defies categorization, from a band committed to following its evolution. Polyrhythmic and densely-layered, the songs continue the band’s trajectory into synth-laden, majestically dreamy expansiveness, but also reintroduce the fuzzy guitars that originally drove the their sound. But it’s not a step back, just another step into new territory using every tool in their toolbox. If anything, the band sounds more ethereal than ever. Highlights: “Symmetry,” “The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs,” “Over and Over”
