Emotionally tumultuous and romantic throughout, Josiah Wise follows up a promising EP by expanding his vision and pouring his heart into every moment of his first full-length album. A classically trained singer with a love for gospel-tinged neo-soul, he brings sultry, emotive 90s R&B-style vocals to Björk-inspired electronic instrumentation. Most of these are songs of amorous devotion and desperation whose object is clearly a man, which accentuates Wise’s courage as he presents himself through a variety of genres that haven’t exactly been the most queer-friendly. The music is complex and alluring and Wise draws the listener deeper with every note. Highlights: “Cherubim,” “Invoice,” “Bless Ur Heart”
